NEPHILIM WERE POSSIBLY GIANTS, NOT ANGELS.

Many believe angels (Nephilim) created children with humans. The Bible verse in question is Gen 6:4 NIV......  "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

It seems highly unlikely the Nephilim were fallen Angels. “Giants”, not Nephilim, is used in many versions including the KJV. Nephilim comes from the root word naphal, meaning to fall (both figurative and literal). The Nephilim were not angels, but probably a race of large men that have fallen from belief. Even a 7-foot person would have been a giant to the average 5' Jew.

A second group of Nephilim appear in Num 13:33 NIV...... We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them." Goliath was probably one of Anak's dependents. As a frame of reference, Goliath was listed in Isaiah 17:4 as a cubit and a span (approx. 9' 6").

Gen 6:2-4 was before The Flood, but Anak was after the flood. Note that Moses wrote in Gen 6:2-4 "AND ALSO AFTERWARD." In order for both the pre- diluvian and post diluvian Nephilim to be sons of angels, angels had to come to earth to have sex twice. Additionally, the second instance of Nephilim did not present them as "sons of God." Instead, they were driven out of Hebron as pagans. In neither scripture are angels mentioned, and there is no explanation why the only biological change in humans would be only size. One also has to wonder why God punished humans with a flood, but the fallen angels were not punished. Gen 6:2 probably refers to the fact that the children of God married into this heathen race. Keep in mind, God warned the Jews not to marry people who were not children of God. Gen 28:1 NIV...... So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: "Do not marry a Canaanite woman.”

Jesus tells us that angels cannot marry. Matt 22:30 NIV...... "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." In other words, angels could not even marry, let alone have children. As the Apostle Paul said, our heavenly bodies will not be like our earthly bodies. So, if angels had children, they must have done it the same way the Spirit came upon Mary - highly unlikely. There is no scripture that explicitly states angel can have sex with either other angels or humans.

Finally, there is no place in scripture that says angels can have children. This belief of angels having children makes about as much sense as saying Satan can impregnate humans because Jesus told people they were children of the devil. (John 8:44). This can only happen in movies like “Rosemary’s Baby. Angels can. however, manifest themselves a as humans (Sodom), but they cannot marry or have sex according to scripture.

Bottom line: much bigger than average men, called giants or Nephilim, married pagan women before the flood. After the flood, giants or Nephilim (decedents of Anak) were driven out of Hebron (Numbers chapter 13). However, the word "humans" in Genesis 6:4 implies the Nephilim were not human. Nobody knows if this term was only used to show an analogy of "the flesh" used in the New Testament. Surely. those who have crucified the flesh did not become angels, but rather men of God. Gal 5:24 NIV...... Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Nevertheless, angels can appear as humans. Remember the angels who visited Job. Nobody knows for sure about Nephilim but consider all the possibilities.
